Ukulele Fest in the District

“Ukulele Fest in The District” brings ukulele music to Downtown Clearwater

This fun and educational festival will offer forty-five-minute introductory courses throughout the day as well as continuous entertainment by well-known local and national artists.

The Downtown Clearwater District continues its rejuvenation by hosting its Inaugural Ukulele Festival in the District all day Saturday, April 23.

The Tampa Bay Ukulele Society (TBUS), recognizing the great potential of the now thriving and heavily promoted District brand, will host the event with funding provided by the Clearwater Downtown Development Board, Replay Guitar, and Luna Ukuleles. TBUS is recognized as the largest active Ukulele Society in the nation with over 3000 members in Tampa Bay. In Southwest Florida that number grows to over 5000. TBUS has hosted a World Ukulele Day each February for the past seven years in Dunedin and at the State Fair that draws Ukulele enthusiasts from throughout the State.

The emphasis of the festival will be on education as well as entertainment with forty-five-minute introductory courses being conducted throughout the day on the 400 block of Cleveland Street. Students of all ages can normally strum several familiar tunes after one introductory lesson. There will be continuous entertainment by well-known local and national artists along the 400 and 500 blocks of Cleveland Street and group jams and “strums and strolls” by up to 50 players several times throughout the day.

The day will be capped off will be a free Gala Evening Concert at the Peace Memorial Church located behind The District at 110 South Ft Harrison Avenue.

The concert will feature local father-daughter favorites Steve and Amanda Boisen and internationally-known acoustic recording artists The Birdwatchers. The concert is free but ticketed. Go to Ukulelefestivalinthedistrict.com to register for your tickets.

A meet and greet reception prior to the Concert will serve as a fundraiser for The Clearwater Free Clinic.
