Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Dr. Garvin

Dr. Garvin.

Dr. Gregory Garvin is a pillar of support for families in Pinellas County, especially those navigating the challenges of relocating or job transitions. With a career spanning over 40 years, including 14 years at Genesis Health System before his retirement, Dr. Garvin’s dedication to pediatric care is unwavering. His commitment to providing high-quality healthcare has made him a respected member of the Clearwater Free Clinic family and a trusted figure in the community.

Dr. Garvin's medical journey began with undergraduate studies at Tulane University, followed by training at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Iowa, a pioneer in osteopathic medicine. During this time, he met his wife, Donna, who was also an osteopathic pediatrician. After relocating to Pinellas Park in 2015, Dr. Garvin joined the Tampa Heralds of Harmony, a local a cappella group. At his first rehearsal, the late Dr. Richard Murbach, then a volunteer physician at the Clinic, approached him and said, “We need pediatric services...we need you.” Eager to contribute, Dr. Garvin has been a dedicated volunteer ever since.

“In pediatrics, we often see families navigating significant changes, whether relocating or adjusting to a new job,” Dr. Garvin explains. “Our goal is to provide continuity of care so parents can feel confident their children are looked after, no matter what.”

As a father of three, Dr. Garvin understands the importance of accessible pediatric healthcare. “When parents bring their children to see us, they’re seeking reassurance and stability during uncertain times,” he notes. “Every child in this country should have a medical home, and if they don't have insurance, this is their medical home.”

For many families, the Clearwater Free Clinic is more than just a medical office; it is a place of trust and continuity, thanks to volunteers like Dr. Garvin. Become a volunteer today!
